Recreational marijuana legislation was victorious in several states this week, including Maine, Massachusetts, California and Nevada. But Arizona's Proposition 205, the recreational marijuana bill, has not been decided.
Pro Proposition 205 spokesmen say the measure could still win. As close to 630,000 ballots in Arizona have not yet been counted.
But officials with the National Marijuana Policy Project are taking a more somber tone saying the strategy in Arizona is certainly to try again, possibly as soon as 2018. Executive director Rod Kampia said the race came down to money.
"To put it in perspective, the amount of money that was spent against us in Arizona this fall exceeded the amount of money that was spent to oppose legalization in Nevada, Massachusetts and Maine combined," Kampia explained.
Opponents of Prop 205 have concerns about the fact that medical marijuana dispensaries would have gotten priority for the limited recreational licenses.
Gov. Doug Ducey, also a vocal opponent, said he doesn’t think any state became stronger by being stoned.
