Downtown Mesa.

Mesa voters on Tuesday defeated Question 1, which would have added four-tenths of a percent to the city’s sales tax; the money would have gone to police and fire departments, as well as to help bring a five-acre ASU campus to downtown Mesa.

But with that money to help pay for it off the table, supporters are trying to come up with other ways of bringing ASU downtown.

Kent Lyons, a Mesa resident who works on downtown development in the city, is one of them. Lyons answers how big a blow is the apparent defeat of Question 1 to the idea of having an ASU campus in downtown Mesa.
