Glendale To Consider $14 Million Stadium Parking Settlement

The city of Glendale may pay millions of dollars in damages to the Arizona Cardinals and the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority, or AZSTA.

The Glendale city council will meet in executive session Monday to discuss a proposed settlement of a 2012 notice of claim filed by the Cardinals and AZSTA. They accused Glendale of failing to provide contractually promised parking for the University of Phoenix Stadium.

If the settlement is approved, the city will pay about $14 million in damages.

To resolve the parking issue, Glendale had considered building a parking garage at the Westgate Entertainment District.

The city instead bought land near the stadium in 2015 for two parking lots. The cost of the land and the lots is about $37.5 million.

Glendale officials declined to comment on the proposed settlement until after the city council votes.
