The number of preventable child deaths caused by maltreatment in Arizona continues to climb, according to findings from the new Child Fatality Review.
In the review released by the Arizona Department of Health Services, the number of child fatalities due to maltreatment went from 75 in 2014 to 87 in 2015.
The main cause of death was child neglect, physical abuse and intentional trauma. The majority of those deaths occurred during the ages of 1 to 4 and were committed by the mother.
All of the child maltreatment deaths were determined to be preventable, according to the report.
Another finding by the report shows the number of child suicides has also increased from 38 deaths in 2014 to 47 in 2015.
