Arizonans In Conversations For Chair Of Both RNC, DNC

Both the Republican and Democratic national committees are looking for new chairmen. Reince Priebus will leave the RNC to become President-elect Donald Trump’s new chief of staff, and the DNC has had an interim chair since Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned over the summer.

Arizonans have been mentioned in conversations for both of those jobs — specifically, Arizona GOP Chair Robert Graham for the RNC post and Congressman Ruben Gallego for the DNC.

Graham talked about it on Election Night.

"Yeah, it’s always a consideration. A lot of people have been very encouraging about it," said Graham. "This is one of those things where you don’t aspire to be — it’s a hard job and you take a lot of bullets for doing the job. So I would just say if Donald Trump is the president, I’ll support whoever he wants as the national chairman because that’s likely the process if we get a Republican president."

We spoke to Bruce Ash, Republican National Committeeman for Arizona, about what, if anything, it would mean for Arizona to have either the DNC or RNC chairs from the state.
