How To Avoid Traffic At Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

It’s shaping up to be a very busy day at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport as travelers prepare to take off for the Thanksgiving holiday. But, there is at least one way to avoid heavy airport traffic.

Officials at Sky Harbor Airport say they’re anticipating more travelers this holiday weekend than last year. Sky Harbor spokesperson Heather Lissner said on an average day, around 120,000 passengers come through the airport. Today, they’re anticipating around 180,000 passengers.

Many travelers departed on early Wednesday "and then arrivals are going to be starting late this afternoon through the evening with busiest time in the 7 o’clock hour," said Lissner.

If you're dropping off or pickup up, "utilize our 44th and Washington Phoenix Sky Train Station," Lissner said. "It’s really the best option for drivers. You can avoid roadway traffic, you can avoid that terminal curb congestion there’s a free cellphone waiting lot and travelers can hop aboard the phoenix sky train and be at the terminal in minutes"

Lissner said if you have to drive into the airport, there are two cellphone lots on the east and west sides.

She said Saturday and Sunday will also be very busy travel days.
