Election results in Maricopa County can now be considered “official.” The County Board of Supervisors canvassed the numbers in a special board meeting downtown Monday morning.
County elections officials say initial analysis shows overall voter turnout this year was low. County Recorder Helen Purcell says it was the lowest since the 2000 elections.
Despite the low numbers, the amount of early ballots returned this year was up significantly. A trend Board of Supervisor’s chairman Clint Hickman said the county will continue to work to accommodate.
"Are there items we can do to make sure we’re most efficient? And we can be quick to the job," Hickman explained.
The county Board of Supervisors passed the motion to accept the results unanimously.
