Tucson has a new program to employ the city’s homeless citizens.
Starting this week, homeless individuals in Tucson will be paid minimum wage to clean up trash and city streets. They’ll receive cash at the end of their day, as well as access to food, clothing, shelter and health services.
The Tucson Homeless Work program is modeled off of a succesful program done in neighboring New Mexico.
Funding for this year is being provided by the city of Tucson, as well as Pima county. Officials hope that donations will help them continue the program next year.
