Leading Volunteer Veterans Into Disaster Zones

After a massive earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, Jake Wood led a group of fellow veterans, as well as some doctors, into the country to do medical triage.

That was the first mission for what’s become Team Rubicon, a non-profit Wood co-founded.

It consists of about 42,000 volunteers around the country, most with military backgrounds. And, when disaster strikes, they head in to help. They’ll have responded to nearly 50 disasters this year alone.

Wood is also Team Rubicon’s CEO, and he’ll be in Phoenix tomorrow, speaking to the group Arizona Forward. Wood explains how this kind of work appeals to veterans.
