Teens Arrested In Cross-Border Marijuana-Launch Plot

Two Arizona teenagers face smuggling charges after they were caught with marijuana that had been launched over the U.S.-Mexico border in an unusual smuggling attempt.

The two teens were found with a bundle of marijuana that U.S. Border Patrol officials say was fired from an air cannon over the Mexico border into Naco on Dec. 7.

According to the agency, agents found the teens with 34 pounds of marijuana that had been molded into a cylinder shape that could fit into a 55 gallon drum.

The two teens were turned over to Cochise County prosecutors under a teen prosecution initiative called Operation Immediate Consequence. The juveniles could face up to 18 months in custody.
