In a joint statement, Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake said a provision in the NDAA will require the Federal Aviation Administration to review flight path changes and quote “take steps to mitigate the negative effects these changes have had on the community.”
In 2014, the FAA altered flight paths at Sky Harbor Airport as a part of their NextGen program, which aimed to transform air traffic control systems from radar-based tracking to a satellite-based system. The changes brought noisy airplanes at a lower level over residential areas in Phoenix.
The Act also boosts defense spending, laying out a $619 billion budget for the Pentagon. Troops will see a pay raise and Arizona-based defense contractors cheered the announcement.
The Act now goes to President Obama to sign or veto.
