Sheriff Joe Arpaio has closed what was perhaps his most infamous investigation. Citing two separate forensic examiners, Arpaio and his chief investigator Mike Zullo allege President Obama's birth certificate is fake.
At at a presentation Thursday evening, Zullo showed a video comparing a birth certificate provided by the White House and the birth certificate of a Hawaiian woman. The sheriff and Zullo claim the similarities in the documents prove that Obama’s birth certificate was a composite made from parts of the other.
Arpaio began his investigation five years ago after members of the Surprise Tea Party asked him to look into claims made by an author about the authenticity of the president’s birth certificate.
“At this time and to this day I stated that I did not care where the president was born," Arpaio said. "This had nothing to do with that.”
The county sheriff said he will hand the investigation results over to the federal government and suggested a congressional hearing should be conducted. Arpaio, who lost his bid for re-election last month, refused to take questions after the hour-long presentation.
