Procrastinators Unite At The Post Office To Ship Christmas Gifts

'Tis the season to procrastinate on getting your Christmas gifts in the mail. The U.S. Postal Service has noticed this trend and has not only opened offices on Sunday, but 10 post offices will be open in the Valley every day this weekend.

Postal Service spokesman Peter Hass said in the past, only a handful of post offices would be open. And he recommends utilizing this extra day.

“The Sunday hours this weekend are definitely an opportunity for our customers to take advantage of those and kind of avoid the rush on Monday. Because it never fails, the Monday before Christmas Day tends to be the biggest mailing day of the year,” he said.

The last day to ship a package to have it at any destination in the U.S. in time for Christmas is Dec. 19.

Hass said this holiday season, the postal service is expecting to handle and deliver over 750 million packages nationwide. That will be a 12 percent increase compared with last year.
