Glendale To Host Gold Cup Knockout Match In July

International soccer will return to Glendale this summer.

University of Phoenix Stadium will host a match in a knockout round of the 2017 Gold Cup that kicks off in July.

The tournament includes teams from the Caribbean and North and Central America, but countries like Brazil and South Africa have also participated.

Mexico, the United States or both have played in almost every Gold Cup final.

Local organizers probably would love for Mexico, which has won the most Gold Cup titles, to return to Glendale. Mexico drew a large crowd at the stadium this year during the Copa America Centenario. The venue was less than half-full when the U.S. lost to Colombia in the third-place match.
