Arizona Receives More Than $37 Million In HUD Grant

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded nearly $2 billion in grants to help end homelessness to agencies and organizations across the country.

Arizona is set to receive more than $37 million.

The money will go to organizations that are part of a Continuum of Care, networks of housing and services providers.

There are CoC’s in Tucson and Pima County and Phoenix, Mesa and parts of Maricopa County. Organizations compete for these funds with other networks across the country.

"In Tucson and Pima County, close to $8.5 million and Phoenix, Maricopa County close to $25.5 million was awarded," said Ed Cabrera with HUD.

He said overall Phoenix and Arizona have seen a reduction in the number of people experiencing homelessness since the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness was established in 2010.
