The new state legislative session does not begin for another month. But one Arizona lawmaker has already submitted a bill to allow government officials to deny some public-records requests.
State Sen. John Kavanagh’s SB 1019 would require those wanting to gain access to public records by identifying what they want with “reasonable particularity.” If not, government officials will be able to deny any public-record request by arguing it’s "unduly burdensome" or "harassing."
The senator from Fountain Hill proposed a nearly identical bill last year.
The bill was passed by the Senate, but voted down in the House.
