A list of Arizona’s most popular names of 2016 is out, and there are two new names on the top of the list.
Liam and Emma were the names of choice for Arizona parents this past year.
The Arizona Department of Health Services said more than 400 boys were named Liam, and 420 girls named Emma. They beat out Noah and, for the first time in five years, Sophia.
And while many of the names in the top 10 have been moving through the ranks, some of the most popular names of the past aren’t even in the top 10 anymore.
Names such as Jennifer, Jessica, Jason and Justin topped the lists in the '70s and '80s but now miss the top 100 entirely.
It is important to note that some names might be more popular than the list indicates. The health department compiles the list based on the spelling of the names.
