Navajo Nation Out Of Money For Cash Assistance Programs

Navajo Nation members who receive financial assistance have now gone two months without their General Assistance checks.

Gladys Ambrose with the Navajo Nation Department of Family Services confirmed the lack of payments Tuesday and said her department was going to request additional funding.

Statements from the Division of Social Services say a “depletion” of funding is to blame for the payment stoppage. The division has also run out of money for its Burial Assistance Program.

Officials have told assistance recipients they do now know when the payments will resume.
