The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago has reached a deal with a Scottsdale-based company that operates red-light and speeding cameras, whose former chief executive was convicted in a decades-long bribery scheme.
Others at Redflex Traffic Systems won’t be prosecuted as long as the company continues to cooperate.
In a statement, Chicago’s U.S. attorney praised Redflex for help in securing convictions of former company executive Karen Finley and former Chicago transportation official John Bills, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for accepting cash and gifts worth $2 million.
The non-prosecution agreement requires Redflex’s continued cooperation with the U.S Department of Justice and law enforcement agencies in Australia, where its parent company is headquartered. This is in addition to payments to Chicago, the amount to be determined later.
According to its website, Redflex operates traffic-safety cameras in more than 200 communities in North America.
