The Arizona Department of Transportation has a New Year’s resolution suggestion for drivers in 2017: proper blinker use.

The message “New Year, New You. Use your blinker” is now appearing on overhead message boards in the valley.

"I mean we’ve all been on the road when someone cuts in front of us and there’s no blinker no turn signal, it’s just out of the blue," said Doug Pacey, an ADOT spokesman. "And it’s, hey, you know, just use your turn signals, be a courteous driver. New Year new you. Let’s all start off on the same foot and be safe drivers."

Pacey said the message is a natural follow up from the agency’s reminders to buckle up and avoid drunk driving around the holidays.

Also important - turning off your blinker once you’ve safely switched lanes.
