Gov. Doug Ducey will give his annual State of the State address this afternoon, on the opening day of the 2017 legislative session.
The speech will give him a chance to outline his priorities for the upcoming year, in areas like tax policy, economic development and education.
I sat down with the governor late last week in his office on the 9th Floor of the Executive Tower and asked him about those and other areas; we started with education, and specifically education funding.
A panel he put together to work on changes to the state’s funding formulas came back late last year and said, yes, those formulas should be re-worked, but that lawmakers and the governor should be the ones to do it. So, I asked about some of his ideas for how that might look.
We also heard about education and transportation funding. Now, the rest of that conversation — starting with discussion of an event that happened toward the end of last year.
