Tombstone Declares Itself 'America's Second Amendment City'

The shootout at the O.K. Corral took place more than a century ago in Tombstone. Now, the town known for its Wild West past and recreations has named itself "America’s Second Amendment City."

Tombstone Mayor Dusty Escapule said the proclamation doesn’t change any existing laws or ordinances. But, rather, it’s a symbolic way for the city to show support for the right to bear arms.

“We’re just making a statement that we believe in the Second Amendment, and we’re calling ourselves America’s Second Amendment City,” he said. “And we’ll always call the town too tough to die.”

The city is embracing the new self-proclaimed title despite a 2015 incident when a re-enactor didn’t check his gun for live rounds before taking part in a skit and shot his colleague.

Tombstone now has a law requiring businesses to get permits to do shooting re-enactments.
