Maricopa County Hires Two Law Firms For Diamondbacks' Lawsuit

Maricopa County could eventually spend up to $5 million for two law firms to defend the lawsuit brought by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks want out of their lease of Chase Field, arguing the venue’s deteriorating condition jeopardizes the club’s future.

On Wednesday, Maricopa County officials spent almost two hours behind closed doors getting legal advice. Afterward, the stadium’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to hire the local firm, Gammage & Burnham, and the Washington D.C. firm, Williams Lopatto PLLC.

Both law firms received a one-year contract, which can be renewed annually up to four times.

County officials approved spending $500,000 this year, with an option to double, depending on costs.
