Flake Giving Trump Wide Discretion Over Cabinet Picks

It’s Day 3 of confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill, and Republicans and Democrats have been questioning, sometimes vigorously, President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., was among the lawmakers talking to perspective Cabinet members. Asked if there is a nominee he would rather not see confirmed, he said he gives the president wide discretion, regardless of party affiliation.

"If you remember, I voted for Loretta Lynch even though I disagreed with her philosophically on a lot of things, I thought President Obama deserved to have his team. I feel the same about President Elect Trump, unless there’s something disqualifying," Flake said.

When asked about the speed of the confirmation hearings, Flake said many of Obama’s Cabinet picks were confirmed on the first day he was in office.
