Arizona Gov. Ducey's Budget Proposal Met With Mixed Reaction

Gov. Doug Ducey unveiled his budget proposal on Friday for the upcoming fiscal year. The $9.8 billion plan includes around $176 million in new money that would go to K-12 education, that’s the largest share of new spending.

The governor is proposing a small pay raise this year, resulting in a 2 percent cumulative increase over five years. House Speaker J.D. Mesnard said he likes it.

But Joe Thomas, president of the Arizona Education Association, isn’t sure it’ll move the needle for teachers.

With me now to talk about some of the key aspects of the governor’s budget proposal is Howie Fischer of Capitol Media Services.
