Several top Navajo Nation leaders will be heading to Washington, D.C., this week to participate in activities surrounding the U.S. presidential inauguration. They hope to outline goals they’d like the Trump administration to address.
Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye and Council Speaker LoRenzo Bates are among those making the trek to the U.S. Capitol this week. The group has several meetings with national organizations on their agenda, including the National Congress of American Indians and the National Indian Health Board.
In an interview with the Farmington Daily Times, Bates says the trip will allow tribal leaders better access to the Trump administration so they can get a better gist of how their platforms impact the Navajo Nation.
Begaye also confirmed that he was invited to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration by the Republican National Committee.
