Since 2014, the Phoenix Public Library has been helping entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground with an eight-week workshop called the Business Roadmap Program. Now, a Spanish-language version will be offered for the first time at Palo Verde Library in Maryvale.

Mapa Para Su Negocio is geared toward Spanish-speakers like Jose Gamiz and his wife, Leticia, who own the food truck Mi Vegana Madre, or My Vegan Mother.

His wife took three classes at Burton Barr Central Library, including the Business Roadmap Program, which features biweekly seminars. Gamiz says he sees a lot grand openings and a lot doors closing, especially in Maryvale.

"People don’t have the know-how as far as the business. They might know how to fix the car, they might know how to cook Mexican food or whatever it is the business that they’re starting; But it's all the other minutia of actually running a business like bookkeeping and marketing and social media," he said.

For Gamiz and his wife, they’re still up and running more than a year after starting their business. Mapa Para Su Negocio kicks off its first session Jan. 31.
