On Wednesday, council members approved the airport’s plan to amend current contracts so food and beverage companies that operate inside the terminals can also run food trucks.
The Aviation Department has identified eleven locations across Sky Harbor’s 3,000-acre campus. They include cargo areas, hangars, corporate offices and the rental car center. And, yes, the cell phone lots are on the list for those who need a snack or drink while waiting to pick people up.
Anywhere from three to 12 trucks will cover routes weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. with possible nights and weekends to come, depending on demand. No start date has been announced.
Sky Harbor will collect rent that equals 13 percent of gross revenues which is estimated around $30,000 to $40,000 annually. Airport officials will add or remove locations based on demand and plan to evaluate the new program after one-year.
