Double check and triple check that tax return before sending it this year. Arizona’s Department of Revenue admitted it sent out the wrong 1099-G forms to nearly 500,000 tax payers this year.
The forms reflect how much refund a tax payer received the prior year and allows them to estimate payments or refunds in the current year. The problem is, this year those forms reflect 2014 tax information, not 2015, and that could trigger an automatic audit.
Department spokesman Ed Greenberg said they have launched an internal investigation and are working, "As quickly as possible for the impacted taxpayers by getting corrected 1099-G forms out as quickly as possible."
New 1099-G forms should arrive reflecting 2015 refunds.
