The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals covers 20 percent of the U.S. population.
Arizona lawmakers are once again renewing efforts to leave the 9th Circuit for a brand new one.
The bill coordinated between Sens. Jeff Flake and John McCain would allow six of the nine current states — Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Washington — to break away and into a newly-established 12th Circuit Court of Appeals.
According to a release from Sen. Flake’s office, Arizona has the busiest federal docket, per capita, in the entire circuit. An average wait time for an appeal can exceed 15 months.
“Establishing a new circuit with stronger local, regional, and cultural ties will ease the burden across the West and ensure that the people of Arizona finally get the swift access to the courts they deserve," said Flake in the release.
