Arizona Sports Tourism President: Next Bid To Host Super Bowl Up To Cardinals

In the aftermath of the Super Bowl’s first ever overtime, Arizona tourism officials are hoping to rally their teams to get the big game back to the Valley in the future.

The soonest that can happen is 2022. Arizona Sports Tourism Authority President Tom Sadler isn’t aware of any current bids to return to the game to University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

He says that’s up to the owners of the Arizona Cardinals.

“I rely on and wait for the leadership of Michael Bidwill, the Cardinals and the local organizing committee. I’m waiting patiently along with everyone else to find out when we can jump on that again," Sadler said.

Sadler says the ASTA doesn’t want to submit a premature bid, preferring to quote “keep their powder dry” for a future year when a Super Bowl bid is realistic.

The Valley last hosted the NFL title game in 2015. University of Phoenix Stadium hosted college football’s championship game last year and will be the home to the men’s Final Four in college basketball this April.
