Judges in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously refused to reinstate President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban travel from seven predominantly Muslim nations.
The court refused to reinstate the order, rejecting the administration's claim of presidential authority, questioning its motives and concluding that the order was unlikely to survive legal challenges.
Us United is a Phoenix-based nonprofit which supports refugees, which has held protests against the travel ban. The organizations president, Abdul Manfoukh, said there is a sense of relief following the ruling.
“I found it very optimistic to see our voices were heard and that, the people were upset, and it made a difference,” he said. “Cause’ sometimes when you look at politics and you have bullies like Trump for example, they will be overwhelmingly influential in these roles.”
Manfoukh said there is still some fighting to do, though.
The ban still faces dozens of other lawsuits, some filed by would-be refugees directly affected by it.
