Maricopa County Seeks To Dismiss Arizona Diamondbacks' Lawsuit

The Maricopa County Stadium District has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Arizona Diamondbacks over Chase Field.

In January, the Diamondbacks filed a lawsuitagainst the county, its baseball stadium landlord, over ballpark maintenance issues. The club is also looking for the right to probe the possibility of leaving downtown Phoenix.

Now the county stadium district wants the lawsuit dismissed and the dispute settled by arbitration. It claims the two sides are contractually bound to settle the matter outside of court.

The lawsuit filed by the Diamondbacks specifically asked for a jury trial. They claim the county should pay $187 million in stadium repairs and upgrades.

The county has previously said it would use stadium rent money paid by the club to cover the legal costs of the lawsuit.
