International Rescue Committee Weighs In On 9th US Circuit Ruling

The legal fight over President Donald Trump's ban on travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries is still on hold after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to reinstate the order Thursday.

The court sided with the states of Washington and Minnesota on nearly every matter, concluding that there is not enough evidence that these migrants would pose a threat to national security.

So, the restraining order halting the ban will continue, but it’s still temporary and hasn't resolved broader questions about the legality of Trump's order.

Trump tweeted his reaction. In all caps, it read — “SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!”

Here’s what Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson had to say.

"In response to the president’s tweet, well. Uh (pauses for laughter). We have seen him in court twice and we're two for two, that's number one,” Ferguson said.

The Justice Department said it is reviewing the decision and considering its options. The administration could appeal the ruling to a larger 9th Circuit panel or bypass that step and go straight to the U.S. Supreme Court.

There is a lot still at play here, and with me to talk about that is Nicky Walker, development manager with the International Rescue Committee here in Phoenix.
