Tohono O'odham Release Video Opposing Trump's Proposed Border Wall

A southern Arizona tribe has released a video reiterating its opposition to the border wall being proposed by President Donald Trump. The Tohono O’odham nation includes 75 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.

"Tohono O’odham have been in this area since time immemorial," said Vice Chairman Verlon Jose of the Tohono O’odham Nation. He, along with other tribal members, appeared in a video asking President Trump not to build a wall that would effectively cut the nation in half.

"A wall would totally forbid our members to cross because we cross the border daily for basic necessities," Jose said in the video. "We also cross for burials to visit our relatives."

In addition to cultural and environmental ramifications, the video reiterates the tribe’s commitment to working with federal, state and local agencies on border security measures, which it says are working.
