US Begins To Solicit Contractors To Build Border Wall

The Homeland Security Department announced Friday morning that it will begin taking bids for a wall along the border with Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection posted a notice to a federal contracting website saying it intends to ask for bids for the wall beginning March 6. It’s unclear what those walls will look like. Specifically, CBP wants vendors to submit a concept of their prototype for "wall structures” by March 10.

Evaluation of the bids will happen by March 20. In a second phase, CBP said it will take full proposals by March 24, including the cost for construction of a wall with Mexico. The agency said it will consider multiple awards. Currently, 652 miles of the 1,952-mile long border with Mexico is reinforced with fencing, barriers and screens.
