State Supreme Court To Hear Arguments In Cattle-Brand Dispute

The Arizona Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today on a cattle-brand dispute.

At issue is whether the Arizona Department of Agriculture broke state law when it allowed a California company to register cattle it was moving to the state with the “Bar 7” brand that was already in use in Arizona by an Eloy rancher.

The department initially approved the use of the design as long as the two cattle growers branded their animals in different locations.

A lower court ruled last summer that the department does have the discretion to do this.
