Republic Reporter Discusses Legal Battle Over Executions

When death-row inmate Joseph Wood was executed by lethal injection in 2014, it took almost two hours for him to die.

Experts at the time said it ranked as one of the longest drug execution deaths in U.S. history. There is now a halt on all executions in Arizona, until a legal battle over how the state carries out its executions is resolved.

Another federal lawsuit over this issue was filed by media, including The Arizona Republic, demanding transparency into the state’s execution policies.

Joining us now is Arizona Republic reporter Michael Kiefer, who has been covering this, and was a witness to Wood’s execution back in 2014.
