Saddled with huge sports and entertainment bills, Glendale once considered selling a library. Now the city could decide to slash a handful of different library fees.
The plan would eliminate the penalty for people who reserve a book but are late picking it up. The cost to rent any size meeting room would drop, as would the price for non-Glendale residents to get a library card.
The proposal is based on public feedback, said Michael Beck, Glendale’s chief librarian.
“It also bring our services and fees in line with neighboring cities and libraries, because we do want Glendale residents and also West Valley residents to choose the Glendale public libraries,” Beck said.
Glendale has three libraries, and designers are working on a fourth that’s tentatively scheduled to open in fall 2018.
