The Oakland Raiders are moving about 570 miles west to Las Vegas. The decision was made Monday morning at the at the National Football League’s annual meeting, held in this year in Phoenix.
The Raiders will likely play two or three more years in the Bay Area before their $1.7 billion stadium near the Las Vegas strip is ready.
Raiders owner Mark Davis said he still has mixed feelings about the decision, but the greatness of the Raiders is in its future and the future is in Nevada.
“I love the fans in Oakland, and I know that they’re going to be disappointment and maybe some anger,” he said. “And I just hope that in the future as we play in Oakland this year, the fans understand that it wasn’t the players, it wasn’t the coaches that made this decision, but it was me that made it.”
Well, Davis and the 30 other team owners voted for the move. The owner of the Miami Dolphins was the only dissenting vote.
