The U.S. has engaged in a number of wars over the past several decades — including in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
But circumstances have also led the nation’s leaders to consider whether to act to keep a future war from happening. The concept is known as “preventive” war.
Scott Silverstone is a professor of international relations at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and author of the book "Preventive War and American Democracy." He’ll be speaking tonight at ASU’s Memorial Union as part of the university’s Center on the Future of War.
