Maricopa County To Start Rebuilding Portion Of Gilbert Road

A stretch of Gilbert Road was washed away when the Salt River Project released water from its upstream reservoirs. Now, the Maricopa County Department of Transportation will start rebuilding the northbound low water crossing next week.

But that project is actually a temporary fix.

Nicole Moon of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation said, "We have a bridge that’s in design and is expected to begin construction in summer of 2019."

Moon says the new bridge will replace the existing bridge and low water crossing. The project is expected to cost $65 million, but that number could change.
