'Phoenix Forgotten' Movie Tackles Phoenix Lights Phenomenon

You might have seen the billboards around town … “they’ve been lying to you,” it reads, with the hashtag #phoenixforgotten.

The image though, is one you probably recognize, if you’ve lived in the Valley for long. It’s the infamous picture of the Phoenix Lights, the supposed UFO sighting above the Valley in 1997.

In the years since people witnessed the five balls of lights flying low over the Phoenix sky, the event has become the stuff of legends. There have been documentaries made, books written and countless theories espoused about the Phoenix Lights.

And now, a movie produced by Ridley Scott is tackling the lights. “Phoenix Forgotten” is set to be released in a few weeks, but the story has been documented for decades.

Richard Ruelas, a longtime reporter for The Arizona Republic, wrote about the Phoenix Lights when they first became a phenomenon.
