The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee questioned Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Wednesday about construction of a border wall and keeping travelers safe when returning from abroad.
But it was U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona that left the room speechless after his questioning.
McCain has been an open critic of President Donald Trump’s travel ban from six majority-Muslim countries. And he was quick to point that out at the end of his questioning.
“How about the next time you do a travel ban, how about thinking it through,” he said as stood up ready to walk out of the hearing.
This statement was made minutes after McCain told Kelly he should not have taken the blame for the travel ban.
In the past, McCain has said the executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve the country’s security.
