Arpaio Hires Additional Lawyers For Contempt Case

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has lined up additional lawyers to defend him at his upcoming criminal contempt-of-court trial. Those new attorneys filed a motion Monday afternoon to dismiss the criminal charge.

Dennis and Jack Wilenchik are now on Arpaio’s legal team.

Last week, attorneys Mel McDonald and Linda Kim Tivorsak were allowed to quit the case after citing ethical concerns in representing the lawman.

In his April 25 trial, Arpaio will face the contempt charge for defying a court order to stop his immigration patrols. He acknowledged prolonging the patrols, but said his defiance was not intentional.

Dennis and Jack Wilenchik — a father and son — once represented a former Arpaio aide in a civil contempt case over the violation of the immigration-patrol order.
