Lower Colorado River Tops List Of Most Endangered Rivers In 2017

An environmental group has listed a part of the Colorado River as one of the nation’s most endangered rivers.

The report puts the Lower Colorado River at the top of the list for most threatened in 2017.

The river supplies drinking water to Arizona, California and Nevada and irrigation for much of Arizona’s farmers.

The group, American Rivers, says federal and state agencies have made progress to reducing overuse of the river — but no official drought plan, either  statewide or between Southwest stakeholders — has yet been made.

For some, like Arizona growers, that would mean large cutbacks to water allocation in the event of a shortage.
