African-American newspapers have been an important part of black communities and culture for decades, but they can also provide a different perspective on American history.
That was the aim of ASU Professor Matthew Delmont in his digital history project, "Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African-American Newspapers."
For a year, Delmont highlighted an item from an African-American paper every day. Each one focused on what would be considered a standard community story.
We spoke with Delmont about his effort.
