The popularity of science fiction and fantasy novels, TV shows and movies is extending its reach, and the variety of stories continues to expand.
And that’s reflected in the finalists for this year’s Hugo Awards, which were announced earlier this month. The Hugos have been given on an annual basis since 1955.
So what are the trends from this year’s group of nominees?
We talked about that with Kij Johnson, associate professor at the University of Kansas in its Center for the Study of Science Fiction. She is also a Hugo winner herself.
