MVD Offering Arizona Lottery Tickets

As if the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division wasn’t fun enough already, the government agency is now offering gaming.

The lottery has installed vending machines at MVD locations in Glendale and Scottsdale. The machines dispense the same scratch-off and draw tickets you can find at a grocery store or gas station.

The three-month pilot program aims to test the expansion of gaming among government offices.

Lottery spokeswoman Nikki O’Shea says the lottery thought of the MVD locations because they are high-traffic areas.

“With people waiting to be serviced by MVD, they might take a look around and see our lottery vending machine and think ‘Hey I’d like to play a scratcher while I’m waiting a few minutes,'” O'Shea said.

The MVD won’t be able to pay out winning tickets but it does get a 6.5 percent commission on sales. O’Shea says if the program works well, you might see the lottery machines at other state agencies like the Parks Department.
