In Flagstaff, a trial is ongoing for a man accused of shooting four fellow Northern Arizona University students, killing one. Two of defendant Steven Jones’ friends testified Thursday for the prosecution.
These friends were with Jones, then an NAU freshmen, the night of the 2015 shooting, and on Thursday they were star witnesses for the prosecution.
The prosecution contends it was premeditated murder when, after being confronted by a group of students, Jones retrieved his gun from his car and shot four people.

Prosecutor Ammon Barker asked Jake Mike how he felt when he saw Jones had a gun.
“I was scared,” Mike replied.
“Of who?” Barker asked.
“Of Steven, of the situation,” Mike said.
Mike added the situation seemed hostile, but that never thought his life was at stake.
Colin Brough died in the shooting, and three other people were injured. Jones has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his attorneys say he was acting in self-defense.
If convicted, Jones faces up to life in prison.
